Choosing the right Scrapbook paper for your project

Posted by Olga Day on

Hey Scrappy friends,,

Scrapbook paper is an essential element of any scrapbooker's toolkit. It is the foundation upon which all other elements of your scrapbook are built. Whether you are an experienced scrapbooker or just getting started with scrapbooking, the right scrapbook paper can make all the difference to the final outcome of your project. In this article, we will explore the different types of scrapbook papers that are available, and how to choose the right paper for your project.

The first thing to consider when choosing scrapbook paper is the type of paper. There are several different types of paper that can be used for scrapbooking, including cardstock, patterned paper, and vellum. Cardstock is usually a heavier and much thicker paper that is commonly used as the base for scrapbook pages. It is acid free and lignin free and can withstand the weight of many photos, embellishments, and other memorabillia. Patterned paper is a more decorative paper (florals, stripes, dots) that can be used to add color and interest to your pages. It comes in a wide variety of patterns, colors, and designs, making it the perfect choice for creating backgrounds, layering, and other design elements. Vellum is a transparent or semi-transparent paper that can be used to add a unique touch to your pages. It can be used to create overlays, embellishments or as a protective layer for your photos.

Another important consideration when choosing the right scrapbook paper for your project is the weight of the paper. The weight of the paper refers to its thickness (gsm) and can vary from paper to paper. Heavier weight papers are typically more durable and can withstand more wear and tear than lighter weight papers. Lighter weight papers are perfect for layering and adding detail to your pages.

The color and pattern of the scrapbook paper are also important factors to consider. The color of the paper should complement your photos and the other elements on your page. For example, if you are using a lot of bright colors in your photos, you may want to choose bright colours for your background paper. The pattern of the paper can also add interest and dimension to your pages. There are a wide variety of patterns available, from simple solid colors to patterned paper with stripes, flowers, illustrations etc.
